It was no surprise that Bayford and Hertford II (B&H) decided to bat first on a hard and true wicket.
So, it was much to the credit of Hertford's opening bowlers, George Gardner and Ross Murphy that they managed to restrict B&H to 30 runs off the first 10 overs, after giving away 10 runs off the first over.
The theme of 30 runs off ten overs continued for the rest of the innings as George Giblett and Alex Bartlem continued to strangle the efforts of B&H to accelerate the innings.
They were well-supported by some very sharp fielding, especially in the covers, as Jeff Hurrell, Oran Riddle and Alex Bartlem hoovered up nearly everything that was thrown at them. Steve Page also get a mention for his “bionic” catch at square leg; looked painful…
The quintet of bowling was completed with the introduction of Matt Day, who miraculously managed to find prodigious away swing from a ball now resembled the proverbial bar of soap due to the inclement conditions.
As with the rest of the Hertfordshire fixture list, the weather won the day with the B&H on 109 for six from 32 overs, much to everyone’s frustration.
