The 1st XI travelled to Old Owens looking to build on last week's impressive away victory and secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season. After an excellent start with the ball that reduced the hosts to 44/3, Hertford were unable to capitalise as several dropped chances allowed Old Owens to recover to 246. Carlson claimed a second successive five-wicket haul (5-56), well supported by D. Orchard (3-68). In reply, an excellent spell from Wickham (6-38) dismantled the Hertford batting line-up, with the visitors dismissed for just 74.
The 2nd XI also endured a tough afternoon at home to Tewin. A superb 144 from Portas laid the foundations for the visitors' imposing total of 299, despite Murphy returning figures of 2-61. Hertford's chase never gathered momentum, with several batters making promising starts but none able to convert them into the substantial innings required. Pavey top-scored with 31, while G. Rideout added 28.
The 3rd XI suffered a similar fate against Ley Hill. Khan's excellent century powered the visitors to 277/7, although A. Rideout was the standout performer for Hertford with figures of 4-47. Chasing a challenging target, Celano battled hard for 47, but the hosts were always up against it and eventually finished 132 runs short.
A frustrating weekend all round, but plenty to learn from as attention now turns to Saturday.
