Weekend Recap: 23/05/2026

Will Ray28 May - 12:00

A challenging weekend overall for the league sides, although the 3s produced an excellent comeback victory, providing the standout result.

The 1st XI travelled to Totteridge Millhillians and were comfortably beaten despite several useful contributions with the bat. Hertford posted 204-7 from their 50 overs, with Lawrance top-scoring with 43 and Eustance adding 30, but the innings lacked the substantial score needed to take control of the game. In reply, Hertford reduced the hosts to 100-4 to leave the contest finely poised, before Webster’s blistering 81* from just 46 balls swung the match decisively in Totteridge’s favour as they won by six wickets. Wilson returned economical figures of 1-25.

The 2nd XI also suffered a difficult afternoon at home to Langleybury. Batting first, Hertford were bowled out for 118, with Pavey making 40 and Sharma contributing 25. Langleybury raced to victory in just 14.1 overs, losing only two wickets in the process, with Underdown claiming 1-20.

The 3rd XI produced the performance of the weekend with an impressive run chase against Wheathampstead. After being asked to field first, Hertford restricted the visitors to 209-7 from their 50 overs, thanks largely to excellent spells from Beardsley (2-36) and Clarke (2-37). Chasing 210, Hertford found themselves in trouble at 88-4 before Lyte anchored a superb recovery, finishing unbeaten on 69 from 84 balls to guide his side to a deserved victory.

The 4th XI were beaten by 42 runs in a competitive encounter with Welwyn. The visitors posted 226, with Amos the standout bowler with figures of 3-39. Hertford’s reply featured several useful starts, including 37 from Reddy and 33 from Winborn, but, much like the 1st XI, the chase lacked the one defining innings needed to see the side over the line.
