Weekend Recap: 20/06/2026

Will Ray22 Jun - 17:00

Recapping a perfect 4-from-4 weekend and a brilliant day for the Club.

The 1st XI travelled to Bishop’s Stortford and produced an excellent all-round performance to secure a 24-run win, with contributions across the board. Batting first, Cavener (81) and Ray.W (78) put Hertford firmly on course for 300+, reaching 178/1 with 18 overs remaining. The innings lost momentum late on though, and despite some frustration at finishing on 267/8, Hertford responded brilliantly with the ball. Carlson (5-64) led a fast start to reduce Stortford to 23/3 and, despite 86 from Bassingthwaighte, Hertford held their nerve to climb to 7th in the table.

The 2nd XI also came through a tense contest at home to Old Finchleians, winning by 3 wickets with an over to spare. Bowling first, Hertford restricted the visitors to 201 all out thanks to disciplined work led by Orchard.B (3-52) and Ryan (2-28). The chase wobbled badly after losing 3 wickets for just 1 run, but composed knocks from Orchard.T (51) and Ray.O (50), followed by a superb eighth-wicket partnership of 50+ between Orchard.B and Murphy, guided Hertford home.

The 3rd XI enjoyed a more comfortable afternoon away at Potters Bar. A dominant bowling display, spearheaded by captain Beardsley (5-26) and Buse (2-44), skittled the hosts for just 67 in 23 overs. Shah (38) then led the chase with the bat as Hertford reached the target comfortably with 8 wickets in hand.

Completing a rare clean sweep for the men’s senior sides, the 4th XI delivered an impressive performance to defeat Baldock by 43 runs. Batting first, Hertford posted 228, with contributions throughout the order and Prasad top-scoring with 70. Baldock stayed in the hunt throughout the reply, but Winborn produced a superb all-round display with 36 runs and figures of 4-16 to seal victory, well supported by Amos (3-33).

An enjoyable weekend! Onto the next...
