The 1st XI welcomed Potters Bar and, despite the result, delivered an encouraging performance. Asked to bat first on a damp surface that improved throughout the day, Hertford posted a competitive 223. Mikedis anchored the innings superbly with 78, while Underdown’s late 34 added valuable runs. With the ball, Hertford stayed in the contest throughout and Cavener’s excellent 3-34 gave the hosts genuine hope of an unlikely turnaround, but PB held their nerve to reach the target with three wickets in hand and a few overs to spare.
The 2nd XI suffered a disappointing defeat away at Eversholt. After an excellent effort in the field to restrict the hosts to 174 - led by Orchard (4-17) and Ruskin (4-42) - Hertford looked well placed to secure an important win. However, a difficult chase never got going, with only three batters reaching double figures as the side were bowled out 88 runs short.
The 3rd XI again produced the standout performance of the weekend with a convincing seven-wicket win over Shenley Village. A disciplined bowling display restricted the visitors to 183, with Ives (3-7) and Clarke (2-13) leading the way. Ives then completed an outstanding all-round display with 79, while Marnoch’s unbeaten 68 guided Hertford home comfortably.
The 4th XI put in a strong effort in the field against Holtwhites-Trinibis, limiting the visitors to 137-9 from their 40 overs. Contributions came across the attack, with six bowlers taking a wicket and Benham returning figures of 2-27. Unfortunately, the reply never got going, with Morris top-scoring with 12 as Hertford capitulated to 38 all out.
