Weekend recap (Let’s get this one out of the way quickly…). A tough Saturday all round, with only the 4s offering some much-needed cheer.

The 1st XI made some unwanted history away at Totteridge Millhillians, bowled out for just 22 in their chase—the lowest 1st XI league score in club history. Totteridge had earlier posted a strong 238 (Braans 4-73, Eustance 3-51), and any hopes of a chase were quickly dashed by a ruthless spell from Saxena, who took an astonishing 7-6. Cavener top-scored with 7.

The 2s also came up short at home against Knebworth Park. Skipper Pavey chose to bat first, and his side managed to grind out 146 (Orchard.T 40, Abell 22). Knebworth never looked in real trouble, despite a minor stumble, reaching the target with 5 wickets in hand (Underdown 3-19).

The 3s endured a heavy defeat at home to Welwyn Garden City. Having had WGC at 130-4, hopes were high; but things unraveled quickly, as the visitors piled on 318. A successful chase was always going to be a tall order, and so it proved, with Hertford bowled out for 108; 210 runs short.

Thankfully, the 4s spared the club a full-house of defeats with a tense one-wicket win over Welwyn Garden City. Bowling first, they restricted the visitors to 179 (Reddy 5-38, Benham 3-38). The chase was far from straightforward, but the batters held their nerve to seal victory with just one wicket to spare.

Plenty to reflect on; but as always, onwards and upwards!
