Tomorrow marks the final time Benji will captain the 1st XI, bringing to an end a remarkable seven-year tenure after taking on the role in 2020.

During his time as Club Captain, Benji has overseen a period of tremendous stability and success at Hertford, with the Club maintaining its position at the pinnacle of Hertfordshire cricket. That is no small achievement, particularly given that the 1st XI regularly competes against clubs with considerably larger budgets to invest in overseas players and local professionals.

But Benji’s contribution to Hertford has extended far beyond what has been seen on the field.

He has given an enormous amount of time, energy and commitment to the captaincy, setting high standards and expectations across the Club while consistently putting Hertford first. On countless occasions, Benji has been willing to make sacrifices himself to create opportunities for the next generation of players coming through.

That selfless, club-first approach is perhaps best reflected in the success of the wider club this season, with both the 2nd and 3rd XIs enjoying excellent campaigns. The strength and depth we see across the Club today is, in no small part, a reflection of the culture Benji has helped to build during his time as captain.

His most memorable achievement, I'm sure, came in 2021, when Hertford lifted the Herts T20 Cup and won the Premiership Division play-off - a phenomenal double and one that will always hold a special place in the Club’s history.
