Hertford Under 19s had their first outing of the summer on Sunday - away to Hoddesdon sporting the 1st teams all black strip.
The team were missing a few regulars but we were able to call upon a number of talented younger players and a debut for Benji Cowell.
Ryan Stevenson won the toss and elected to bat. The game was played on a used wicket and although Brad/Benji/Alex/Hugh and Ben all got starts and scored at a run a ball there was a tendency to use the aerial route. They all fell to decent catches in the end, especially Ben. It was left to Max Lawrance to play a lovely little cameo that got us up to a defendable total.
Hoddesdon got off to a decent start but once Brad Dawson had removed both openers, the scoring slowed. Very good spells by Hugh Cavener and Tom Orchard (bowling seam) drove home the advantage and Connor Ives and James Davis finished them off.
It is always good to beat your local rivals but also very nice when the away umpire comments on what a pleasant team it was to officiate.
Good start.
Next game Friday 4th home to Sawbo....
