Eric and Springy opened and soon after we needed our ringer, Nick Anderson to make his season debut. The fillin Captain made a brief appearance also before George Rideout was asked to make his way to the middle and a promising partnership was briefly interrupted by an untimely hip-flex injury to our top scoring batsman, Nick. Filin Captain once again providing running between wicket duties.
Sadly batting was a poor show, Pete Amos showing lusty form, scoring a quick dozen off 3 balls before being clean bowled, good effort. The Donkey drop bowling was too good.
Harry provided good support for the shortened tail and was left high and dry by Matt who charged the lower order, C & B. Stu and Matt opened, trying to defend 113, a thankless task but tried to keep the oppo in check with 2 fine wickets to Stu. John Mac had a finger broken while keeping and retired the gloves to Stu, who by his own account did everything. Batted, bowled, fielded and kept! We lost badly, by 8 wickets and left early, we retired to the Hertford Cricket club-rooms to enjoy a season ending BBQ.
Thanks to all the team for such an enjoyable day and season given where we came from, Covid lock-down! I would like to say that it's a pleasure to be asked to captain such a fine bunch of fellows. Here's to next season and dollops of hand sanitser!
