Matt Ahl soon had success with the opening bat caught by an excellent diving catch from keeper Rideout. Gaddesden’s top order recovered to 45/1 and were looking to up the run rate when the first change bowlers came on. This proved to be the downfall of the top order as one batsmen after another was bowled or caught behind off the captain’s bowling, finishing with figures of 6/7 off 8 overs.
Matt Day kept the pressure on by conceding few runs from the other end. Now 71/7 Finn Morgan and Andre Rideout were eager to finish them off. An acrobatic catch at square leg by Jeff Hurrell saw a wicket for Morgan and Rideout finished off the last two in short time. Great Gaddesden all out for 88.
With no pressure on the run rate, Hertford’s experienced opening batsmen Hurrell and Horton batted sensibly and advanced the total to 75 when Hurrell (27) was bowled by a good delivery. With the scores tied on 88, Rich Eaton batting at 4 declared that it was save to remove his pads only to put them on again and go out to bat when Amos was bowled. Horton hit the winning run and went on to finish on 44 not out.
Next game is away against Preston.
