A great team performance against a strong opposition.

Great Gaddesden won the toss and somewhat surprisingly put Hertford in to bat on a firm wicket and fast outfield. Presumably hoping to take advantage of the overcast conditions.

Disciplined batting from the openers Angus Kildare and Nick Horton (41) set a good foundation until Angus was caught at mid-off, the first wicket falling at 53. Eric Riddle (33) joined Nick to advance the total to 93 before getting out lbw. Great Gaddesden’s spinners tied down the middle order. Wickets began to fall in an attempt to accelerate the run rate but the decision to bowl looked justified at 107/5. Dellon Reddy (66) batted with flair and joined by skipper Dave Benham put on 72 for the 7th wicket to take the total to a respectable 208.

Hertford took to the field confident that their total was defendable with a good bowling attack. A solid opening stand (Cheeseman snr 42) and 2nd wicket partnership gave Gaddesden a good start while not surpassing the run rate set by Hertford. The off spin of Jonny Underdown (2/38) and Jason Jagai (2/41) was backed up by some good fielding and wickets falling in an attempt to keep up with the run rate. Steady seam bowling from Dan Orchard (1/17 off 10), Finlay Morgan (2/35) and Alex Bartlam (1/11) proved too much for Gaddesden who finished on 179 off their 50 overs. A solid performance from wicket keeper Matt Bartlam, conceding few extras, also proving decisive.

A great team performance against a strong opposition.
