The 3’s has good memories of a home game having chased down Clifton’s target last time out so there was plenty of room for optimism.

Upon winning the toss Captain Codd elected to bat. Hertford were soon in trouble at 10-2 however some solid batting from Matt Bartlam and Grids brought the score to 74. And then followed the collapse that has plagued so many innings this year. With the ball swinging on a slightly green wicket 5 wickets fell for 30 runs leaving the score 103-7, some late order runs pushed Hertford to a below par but still defendable 170.

The chase started well for Hertford with an early breakthrough and some tight bowling building pressure. A particularly impressive opening spell from young Finlay Morgan. The chase never really got going and at 111-6 after 30 overs the game was in the balance with 60 still required and only 4 lower order wickets left. St Albans number 7 came out and batted very aggressively taking on the young Hertford bowlers to good effect. This in truth broke the back of the chase and despite taking his wicket with 30 still needed St Albans knocked off the remaining runs to win by 3 wickets.

A tricky away day is next up for the 3’s against table toppers London Colney.
