Codd won the toss and on a wicket that had been under covers decided to bowl. Early pressure from the ever consistent and improving Dave Beardsley and Connor Ives had the home side 12-4 after. Ickleford's captain launched a counterattack and went after Codd, however that didn’t last long and after he went regular wickets fell amongst some attacking play from the home side. Eventually all out for 113 in 35 overs.
At the break the target looked like one that could be chased.
Hertford started well reaching 21-0 and seeing off the opening burst. The ‘cursed 3’s collapse’ reared it’s head again though and from a commanding position in the chase the side fell to 62-7. It was down the lower order to try and scramble to the total. Small partnerships got the side closer but some tight bowling and pressure moments told as the side fell to 96-9, Codd who had batted slower than boycott up until this point, was running out of partners and decided it was time to launch with a six over the sight-screens. This took the 3’s to within 10, it was down to Stu Mc to see out an over... unfortunately he could not manage this and the side fell 8 short.
Batting continues to be an issue for the 3’s with our bowling putting us in strong positions. Next week it’s another away day at Radlett, where a victory is needed!
