On a warm May weekend and with a side filled with youth, the 3rd team turned up to Bentley heath full of optimism that we could pick up our first win of the season.
After losing the toss we were asked to bat first, in the early stages this looked to be a strange decision from the home skipper with the top 3 building slowly but surely to 30-1 after 12 overs. Then came the collapse with an unnecessary run out, some very questionable umpiring and some poor luck the score fell to 33-6, Noah and rob wood battled away but in all honesty it was a pitch that one ball had your name on it. We struggled to a very low and disappointing 64.
In reply the two Heath openers played some agricultural shots until Noah prized one out thanks to a good catch from Jeff ‘Hoff’ Hurrell. Captain Codd went on the attack from there in search of the sort of collapse he had seen earlier in the day..... the Heath number three came out swinging (later found out he was the usual number 10) and was dropped three times (sorry Beardsley you get the mention here) at one point there were 3 short extra covers in place. With the score at 61-1 the collapse came with 3 wickets for 2 runs, but that was the last of the wicket action with the winning runs hit soon after.
With a score of 100-120 we could have made a real game of it and hopefully in the return fixture the luck will be on our side and the batsmen will keep their pads out of the way.
Notable performances from rob wood and Noah Osborn even during a disappointing display. A home game is up next against Clifton where we hope to arrest the slide of losses.
