WELCOME TO THE HCC NEWSLETTER

The 2018 cricket season is nearly upon us and it promises to be a good one! Lot's of work has been going on behind-the-scenes over the winter and hopefully the first edition of this newsletter can update players and members on some of the key changes and plans over the coming year.

This newsletter provides you with important dates for your diary, a handy guide to the 2018 captains, an introduction to the cricket committee and an update from the Chairman himself. This newsletter won't be a one-off either – expect another update before the start of the season that will include all the social events coming-up in 2018!

CRICKET IN 2018

Scott Ruskin takes over the 1stXI captaincy from Richard Leather. Scott’s experience will be a valuable asset to a young side as they look to progress and establish themselves in the premier league. Last year's vice-captain, George takes over from Jamie Riddle in the 2ndXI and hopes to continue last year's ultimate success. Graeme Riddle has taken over the 3rdXI. Grids' knowledge and captaincy experience will be a fantastic addition in helping up-and-coming players learn their trade and hopefully get the 3rdXI back up the league as well. Dave Benham is the only Saturday captain to continue from 2017, he will be hoping that a stronger squad this year can help get the 4thXI promoted!

Richard Cordingley and Eric Riddle continue in their roles as Sunday captains, Rich will be hoping the 1stXI can retain the admired CVL title while Eric will be hoping that his gentlemen continue a fine cricketing-education for both those entering and exiting the game.

The club has an excess of talent and youthfulness and so senior training will be led by Scott Ruskin throughout the year. Thursday sessions will include focussed nets, fielding drills and coaching from senior players. Attendances at senior indoor nets have been great so far and players have been benefiting from the approach. Hopefully this will reflect in results come the start of the season.

Hertford are pleased to announce the signing of 22 year old Australian all-rounder, Liam Campbell, for the 2018 season. Liam, a tall fast bowler and powerful middle order batsman, plays his cricket for our partner club in Australia - Caulfield.
