It is with sadness the club notifies you of the recent death of one of our long standing members, Eric Martin.

Eric's funeral will take place at 10am on Friday 27th April 2018 at Woolensbrook Cemetery and Crematorium, Hertford Road, Hoddesdon EN11 9BN and afterwards at Mayflower Place, Hertingfordbury.

Some words below from Jim Riddle.

I was a wet behind the ears 15 year old when I first met Eric he was opening the batting for County Hall and was also captain. In those days County Hall played all the top sides in the County and during that period beat all of them with Erics help.

He opened the batting with Maurice Ashwood and were a prolific batting partnership, he also bowled occasionally. He was always available to give us junior players advice but he taught us to enjoy Cricket on the pitch and in the bar. Some of the party's held at his house in Leahoe will be be remembered in folk law.

By the time I left County Hall he had retired from Cricket but continued to play Golf until quite recently. Eric was an architect based at County Hall Hertford and always kept his clubs in his car so that he could sneak off for the odd game of golf and no one was the wiser (he stopped this when they were stolen from his car). He first played at Chadwell but when it became a 9 hole course moved to East Herts.

I was so pleased when he came to support us at Hertford and eventually he became a VP. Eric was at Hertford most Saturday's and Sundays supporting us and would attend lunches as often as he could. It will be strange not to see him walking around the ground anymore and to have a chat about some of the characters we have played with and against.

Another Friend I shall miss greatly this Summer.
