The Club is sad to announce that Vice President, Alistair Buchanan, died on Saturday.

Although Alistair did not play for Hertford, he was a great friend of the Club and frequently visited Balls Park, not only at Hertfordshire representative matches, but just to enjoy the cricket at Balls Park. His son Giles played for the Club for a number of season during the 1990s. Alistair was elected a Vice President in 1977.

Alistair played his club cricket for Welwyn Garden City CC, joining when he was 15. He was captain for three years (1965 to 1967), the last of which they were undefeated throughout the season.

Alistair was a stalwart of Hertfordshire County Cricket Association, having been a member for 57 years of which 48 were on the committee. He ran the Hertfordshire Young Cricketers for 18 years before being HCCA’s Chairman for a further 19 years.

He was elected President of HCCA in 2014, serving for four years, and it was fitting that he was their President when they participated in a match at Lord’s against the MCC to celebrate the Lord’s bi-centenary.

We send our sincere condolences to Elizabeth his wife, Caroline his daughter, Giles his son and their families.
